Abstract

Characteristics of teachers who have social competence is to communicate politely and get along effectively. Social competence requires teachers to have communication skills with students.The problem in this study is how the principal's management in improving the social competence of teachers at SMP Muara Batang EmpuJudging from the type of data, the research approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. The type of this research approach is descriptive. Descriptive research is research that seeks to describe current problem solvingbased on data.The results of the research on Principal Management's Social Competence for Muara Batang Empu Middle School Teachers, namely by listening to ideas / suggestions from teachers, Socialization, expressing wishes and explaining wishes, providing input and trying to solve teacher problems, Sharing tasks together, setting examples, acting in accordance with ability of teachers, paying more attention to those who are diligent, and attending training related to teacher social competence.Overall andin general the performance of teachers who become obstacles are the way teachers teach less favored/even disliked, guidance and counseling from teachers are not optimal, teacher mastery of the knowledge that must be conveyed is lacking, the method of delivering material is monotonous and less varied, lack of understanding of teachers about child psychology, less attention from teachers about the background and needs of children, lack of good planning concepts in the preparation of programs to advance the institutions they handle, immature teacher personalities, and lack of creativity and innovation to overcome various obstacles that occur in institutions.
