Abstract

Lack of concern for the environment among students will result in a dirty, disorganized, and uncomfortable environment in the surrounding environment. With a phenomenological approach, this qualitative research aims to reveal the role of Ustaz and Ustazah and the obstacles encountered in instilling environmental care characteristics among students. The research informants consisted of the director, Ustaz, and Ustazah of Ma'had Al-Jami'ah IAIN Curup, totaling 15 people. The research data were collected using semi-structured interviews, analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model analysis, and checked for validity by triangulation of sources. The results showed that Ustaz and Ustazah had a significant role in guiding, directing, motivating, and setting an example for students to inculcate the character of caring for the environment. Various obstacles encountered by Ustadz and Ustadz in instilling environmental care characteristics among students were that students were still found to be unruly and spoiled, dishonest, work dishonestly, make lots of excuses, and lack concern for the environment.
