Abstract

ndonesianfacultymembersinIslamicInstitutesinIndonesiaare expected to publish their research results in reputableinternationaljournalssuchasthosepublishedinEnglish.This study aims to investigate the problems and expectationsoffacultymembersfrompublishingarticlesinreputableinternationaljournals.A mix-methodwasadoptedinthisstudyquestionnaireanddepthinterviewsforgatheringprimarydata.Samplesofthestudywere100facultymembers at the English Department of Islamic Institutes inIndonesia. The result showed that some problems were facedbythelecturerstopublishtheirarticlesinreputableinternationaljournals:lackofreferencesanddifficultiesrelated to academic writing, consuming long time and highcostsassociatedwithinternationalpublishing,andnorewardorforthosewhocansucceedinreputableinternational journals. However, there were somepossibleexpectations to encourage the lecturers’ international journalpublication: frequently attend seminars and workshops onhow to write and publish in international journals, practicewriting articles collaboratively with the help of a mentor orexperienced writer, always revise the article drafts followingthesuggestionandcorrectionfromjournaleditorsorreviewers,andgovernmentorinstitutioncansupportadequate references and costs in the order they fell confidentto publishinreputable international journals
